If an item is at position 9 from the top of a list and at position 8 from the bottom of that list, how many items are there in the list?

Sum of positions of an item from top and bottom of a list is always equal to the sum of the positions of the first and last items. So total number of items is= position of last item is= 9 + 8 - 1 = 16.
