Question

In the following number series, one of the numbers does not fit into the series. Find the wrong number.

2, 5, 11, 27, 58, 121, 248

A

5

B

11

C

27

D

58

Soln.
Ans: b

Number 11 is wrong and should be replaced by 12. The series is 2 X 2 + 1 = 5, which gives 5 X 2 + 2 = 12, which gives 12 X 2 + 3 = 27, and so on. So the third item should be 12, not 11.
